Capital Project | Project Description | Budget/Funding Source | Update |
---|---|---|---|
TxDOT Pavement Maintenance |
This TxDOT-initiated pavement maintenance project aims to enhance the airport’s infrastructure by improving surface durability and safety. The project includes crack sealing, seal coating, minor pavement reconstruction, and remarking of the runway, taxiway, and ramp surfaces to ensure optimal performance and longevity. |
This is 90% funded by federal and state sources ($1,372,500), with the City providing a 10% matching contribution from Airport Reserves ($152,500). |
2025_04_16: The pavement project at Burnet Municipal Airport is progressing, but some unexpected delays have pushed the anticipated runway/taxiway reopening to April 28, 2025. Rain in the forecast may cause further delays. The contractor is monitoring weather conditions and will update us if the timeline changes. When the runway reopens, pavement markings will not yet be in place—the surface must cure for about 30 days. Phase Two, which includes final markings, will require a brief additional closure. We’ll share dates as soon as they’re confirmed. Despite delays, the end result will be a much-improved surface for all BMQ users. Thank you for your continued patience and support! |
Platting of Airport Property | Conduct a boundary retracement survey to identify deed boundary lines, prepare the Final Plat, submit it to the City, and establish monumentation for the final boundary. | $35,000/Airport Reserves | City Staff is collaborating with Cuatro Consultants to review the documents related to the replatting of the airport properties. |
Airport (RAMP Grant) | The City of Burnet has been involved in the Routine Airport Maintenance Program (RAMP) with TxDOT Aviation since 2004. This grant funding supports the City in maintaining both airside and landside areas, as well as facilitating small capital projects at the airport. | $111,111/State Ramp Grant 90%/Airport Reserves 10% | The RAMP Grant was executed by TxDOT in October. The following projects have been completed: North highway fence upgrade, minor hangar repairs, perimeter fence repair, CAF automatic gate repair, and installation of a new metal sign at the airport meeting building. |
Box Hangar | The project entails the construction of a box hangar that measures around 100 feet by 120 feet. This hangar will serve as a shell for a potential tenant. By building this hangar, we are establishing a foundation for business growth at the airport. | $1,900,000/Bond Proceeds/BIL Reimbursement | Final site work on the detention pond and concrete is in progress. Building frame erection will continue in the coming weeks, weather permitting. Roofing, sheeting, and pavement work will follow. |
Decel Lane Engineering | This marks Phase 1 of the Deceleration Lane project, which seeks to improve both safety and efficiency by establishing a dedicated deceleration lane for vehicles approaching the airport. This designated lane will enable drivers to reduce their speed gradually, minimizing disruptions to Hwy 281's traffic flow and thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents and congestion. | $20,000/Airport Reserves | No Prgress- This project's funding is tied to the Box Hangar budget. Work will not begin until the budget for the Hangar project is fully finalized. |
